On Monday our caravan hit the road to Bundibugyo district in strict adherence to the newly set traffic police guidelines. Our caravan led by the president H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert (Bobi Wine) , the Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and other leaders touched base on the Cocoa-rich Bundibugyo district at exactly 13:00hrs and throngs of our supporters were already standing by the roadside to welcome us to the town.

An immense deployment was the order of the town with the police and military ready to recklessly attack us in case we hesitated to go to our Booma grounds venue that we had booked for July 8th that was later adjusted to July 15th with the approval of the town clerk. Roads to the town center were barricaded and locals were discouraged from reaching out to us and sip on our message of change. It should be noted that even the day prior (Sunday), our public address system was intercepted and impounded, while the radios were discouraged from announcing our arrival in the town.

The president was destined to address our local supporters by the airwaves of 94.2 Development FM, but this was suppressed by the DPC, a one Wabwire (formerly RPC Mukono) who declared that we were not cleared by the management.

Our LoP grilled the errant police commander, Wabwire to clarify if he is the Managing Director of the radio station. He had claimed that the Management of the radio station does not know about our being at the radio which triggered the LoP Ssenyonyi to inquire the police commander Wabwire is the manager of the radio station. Our team produced receipts to show that we had booked airtime at the radio station.

These efforts of sabotage however did not hinder our office opening ceremony from proceeding. The president H.E Kyagulanyi launched the Bundibugyo party offices and addressed throngs of supporters who convened to express solidarity with our revolutionary cause. In his address, he said he would again lead the team back to Bundibugyo in the near future since the Monday arrangements were met with a regime sabotage.

“We intend to come back to Bundibugyo because we’ve not addressed our people,” he said. He also rallied the young people to rise and fight against corruption in the country if they are to have an improved society with elevated social services.

Our day’s program did not go as planned. The regime has continued to frustrate our mobilization drive despite pledging to be law abiding in our most recent engagement with the police at Naguru Headquarters last Thursday. While we head to Ishaka and Bushenyi as per our program, we are uncertain whether the police will continue to demonstrate sabotage or abide by their commitments.
