The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has endorsed Andrew Ojok, the son to the late Speaker Jacob Oulanya for the Omoro County by-election.

This follows a directive by President Museveni who doubles as the NRM National Chairman to give Ojok the party flag ahead of the May by-election after several prospects failed to agree on a sole candidate during a meeting, sources revealed.

In a statement penned by NRM spokesperson,Emmanuel Dombo the move was intended to keep “party unity and cohesion.”

Dombo also revealed that all the other NRM supporters voluntarily decided to step down to support Ojok.

At least, six NRM party members had expressed interest to replace the fallen legislator, including Andrew Ojok, Omoro District LC 5 Chairman, Douglas Okello, former Gulu deputy RDC Francis Rwotlonyo, Andrew Olal, and Omoro LC5 Speaker, Richard Bongowat Luganya.

Others vying for the Omoro County seat are Patrick Okot, a lecturer at Gulu University, and Forum for Democratic Change-FDC’s Engineer Terrence Odonga.

The by-election to replace the late Speaker is slated for May 25, 2022. The nomination of candidates will take place from May 12-13 at Omoro District Council Hall, according to the Electoral Commission roadmap.
