In the wake of escalating human rights violations and a surge in abductions targeting political activists and opposition leaders in Uganda since the 2021 elections, we, the concerned citizens of Uganda and the global community, join hands in an emphatic call for justice and the restoration of freedom. We demand an immediate end to these egregious actions orchestrated by security operatives acting under the directives of President Museveni.

A Grave Concern

The ordeal of our fellow Ugandans, particularly supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and well-known political prisoners, including but not limited to Segujju Rashid, Sekitoleko Yasin, Robert Rugumayo, Ronald Mayiga, Muhydin Kakooza, Patrick Mwase, Simon Kijambo, Sharif Kalanzi, Joseph Muwonge, Mesach Kiwanuka, Abdallah Kintu, Umar Emma Kato, Kavuma Musa, Ibrahim Wandera, Steven Masakulu, Jimmy Galukande, Paul Muwanguzi, Kenneth Kamanya, Sharifa Ngobi, Davis Matabi, Abdallah Gibusiwa, Livingston Katushabe, Swaibu Katabi, Sirajji Mudebo, Olivia Lutaya, and Joseph Muganza, is a matter of grave concern.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with those who have been unjustly imprisoned, forcibly abducted, or compelled to flee their homeland out of fear for their lives. Such actions stand in stark contrast to the principles of justice and democracy, tearing families apart and plunging communities into turmoil.

Our Demands Are Clear

  1. Immediate Release: We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners languishing in Ugandan prisons. Their arbitrary detention, devoid of a fair trial or justifiable cause, represents a gross violation of their basic human rights.
  2. An End to Abductions: We unequivocally call for an immediate halt to the abductions targeting opposition leaders and political activists. These actions undermine the very foundations of the rule of law and the principles of fundamental human rights.
  3. International Intervention: We urgently appeal to human rights activists, organizations, and the international community at large to intervene on behalf of the people of Uganda. Your solidarity and support are pivotal in exposing these egregious violations.
  4. Peaceful Demonstrations: We implore all NUP supporters worldwide to organize peaceful demonstrations in different countries and states, demanding justice for the victims and an end to the violence and oppression in Uganda.
  5. Accountability: We insist on full accountability for all those responsible for these wanton human rights violations and abductions. Perpetrators, irrespective of their position or affiliations, must face justice.

A Call for Action

As we continue to shine a spotlight on the injustices endured by our fellow Ugandans, we pledge to keep the world informed about the ongoing crisis. We believe in the resilience and strength of the Ugandan people, and collectively, we can strive for a brighter and more democratic future for our cherished nation.

This call for justice and freedom echoes the sentiments of all those who have suffered and continue to suffer as a result of the actions of President Museveni’s regime. The eyes of the world are upon us, and we will not relent until justice prevails.
